The Heart Behind the Practice

Meet Dr. Miriam Westmoreland

Dr. Miriam Westmoreland, a Tucson native, founded Saguaro Sunset Veterinary Clinic to bring compassionate, personalized care to the community she loves. Her calm demeanor and patient-centered approach ensure every visit feels welcoming and informative.

Outside of the Office

When not at the clinic, Dr. Westmoreland enjoys hiking through the Catalina Foothills, staying active in the local community, and spending time with her family, including her son, Oliver, and their furry companions.

Luke Westmoreland - Manager

Luke Westmoreland is our Saguaro Sunset Manager. Married to Dr. Miriam Westmoreland, Luke has been there through every step to build our practice.

Experience

Having spent 8 years working as an ER technician, Luke brings his experience of working with people in the medical field to our clinic where he pursues his passion of providing care to every one of our patients.

Approach

Luke brings his passion for medical care where he can be a calming presence in stressful situations or help our patients when they can’t help themselves.

Outside the Office

Outside of the clinic, Luke loves spending time with his wife and son where he connects over Xbox and board games, plays plenty of card games with his grandma-in-law, and is an avid hiker. Bug, his late border collie, is dearly missed and remembered through her love of patrolling the yard and spending time at the family cabin.

Cindy James - Reception/Fill-in Tech

Cindy James has been in the veterinary field since 2007 and is our receptionist and fill-in tech. Born and raised in Iowa to love and respect all matters of critters, her life has always been full of furry friends and knowledge on the veterinary field.

Experience

Cindy worked at Four Paws Clinic for 17 years and then began working at Acoma Animal Clinic in 2022. After meeting Dr. Westmoreland early into her career, Cindy was able to see Dr. Westmoreland grow into an outstanding and capable veterinarian.

Approach

She enjoys working with animals both big and small, appreciating every single personality and their trust. Her approach in every appointment is easing the anxieties pets feel and reassuring the owners that they are in great hands.

Outside the Office

Cindy and her husband Bob share their home with three Belgian Tervurens (TedE, Trip and Tweed) and 7 domestic felines (Peanut, Pixel, Peepers, Pax, Pom, Patience and PJ.) She enjoys tending her flower garden, doing yard work, and watching television shows with her husband. She adds adventure, laughter, and hugs into every day as much as possible

Jeannie Mowday - Veterinary Tech

Jeannie Mowday is our Veterinary Tech at Saguaro Sunset Veterinary Clinic. Her experience as a Vet Tech spans from 2006, where she has built her skills in patient care and created strong relationships with her patients.

Experience

Originally from Tucson, Saguaro Sunset Veterinary Clinic has welcomed Jeannie in after her years of experience working in the emergency and urgent care setting.

Approach

Her passion for animals runs deep, having always been around her fur babies since she was a child, her first dog Tina glued to her side. She loves how intuitive animals are and loves cuddles, but most of all, loves educating and helping owners improve the quality of life for their pets.

Outside the Office

Jeannie shares her life with two dogs, a Springer Spaniel named Norville and a Chihuahua named Chia. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and friends, and spends her time hiking, swimming, watching movies, and listening to music.

Heidi Armand - Veterinary Tech

Heidi is here to provide support to your pets in every capacity, fulfilling many roles at Saguaro Sunset from vet tech one day to assistant manager in another. She has lived in many places but mostly considers Minnesota and Tucson Arizona to be home.

Experience

Heidi brings 32 years of experience to Saguaro Sunset Veterinary Clinic. Having worked in several clinics, ranches, and even in an appaloosa breeding barn, she is incredibly thankful for the experiences she’s had through these opportunities and the knowledge she has been able to bring to Saguaro Sunset. Having worked with Dr. Westmoreland before, Heidi feels proud to be a part of her practice after being able to see Dr. Westmoreland grow throughout her schooling and practicing journey.

Approach

She enjoys being able to make connections with animals and their owners, easing their experience so that every pet can live a long and healthy life. She was inspired to pursue Veterinary medicine from her childhood experience and love of animals and puts her all into every roll so your pet can have the best of care.

Outside the Office

Heidi currently shares her home with five rambunctious Boston Terriers and one cockatiel named Scritches. Outside of work, she is married and has four amazingly smart girls, and stays active and outdoors with her friends and family. She has a strong love for horses and loves to ride them with her friends, hikes, paddle boards, travels, and reads books on the beach, taking her dogs on as many of these adventures as she can.

Crystal Lara - Veterinary Tech

Crystal is a Veterinary Tech at Saguaro Sunset Veterinary Clinic with a passion for her role, loving the challenge and discipline that comes with being a vet tech and enjoying the connections she is able to build with patients and their owners.

Experience

Crystal has 10 years of experience being a veterinary tech and two years of experience as a CSR in veterinary medicine. Crystal was able to work alongside our doctor when Dr. Westmoreland first started as a veterinary technician and jumped at the opportunity to work for her as she opened Saguaro Sunset.

Approach

For every pet that visits our office, Crystal ensures a simple and pleasant appointment, working to create a seamless experience for your pet and excellent post op nursing care. She enjoys being able to sit down and provide education on proper nutrition, preventative care, and overall animal health.

Outside the Office

She shares her home with an 18 pound Main Coon mix named Moo and has two young boys who keep her very busy. She treats herself to some self care outside of the office, going to the gym five times a week and/or going to the movies and enjoying a large popcorn all for herself.
